Finance beginners donโ€™t fail because they lack toolsโ€”they fail because saving feels abstract, budgeting feels heavy, and feedback is unclear. FinVoyage reframes budgeting into a saving-first loop, supported by a clear visual dashboard and low-friction logging, so users can turn awareness into action and build a repeatable habit.

FinVoyage

As personal finance tools grow, many beginners still struggle to build real financial habits. FinVoyage reframes budgeting around saving firstโ€”helping users set a clear savings goal, track progress at a glance, and stay motivated through lightweight, low-friction interactions.

From tracking to saving
From tracking
to saving

FinVoyage builds a simple saving loop for finance beginners.Users log daily spending with lightweight input, while the home dashboard keeps their goal progress visible at a glance.

At the end of each week, if users stay under budget, FinVoyage prompts them to move the leftover amount into a Savings Jarโ€”turning โ€œspent lessโ€ into โ€œsaved more.โ€ This weekly checkpoint reinforces saving habits and keeps users on track toward their chosen journey.

Budgeting can feel abstractโ€”especially for beginners who arenโ€™t sure what their money is going toward.

User interviews highlighted a consistent need: quick visual feedback creates a stronger sense of control. To address this, FinVoyage visualises spending with chart-based summaries instead of dense lists. By pairing category breakdowns with a clear transaction list, users can quickly see where their money went and adjust spending with confidence.

Team Collaboration
In a fast-paced group project, I learned that alignment is not automatic. Next time, I would set clearer priorities earlier, define ownership more explicitly, and use lightweight check-ins to keep information consistent across teammates.

UI Design
Balancing visual richness with information clarity is an ongoing trade-off. I want to keep improving how I design interfaces that feel polished yet remain easy to scan, learn, and useโ€”especially for first-time users.

Project Outcome
This project pushed me to think beyond โ€œmaking screensโ€ and consider product direction. If I were to run a similar project in an unfamiliar domain again, I would validate assumptions earlier and refine the flow with more targeted testing before finalising decisions.
